Dungiven 1-12
Drum 1-10
In the Junior Final, Dungiven Thirds faced parish neighbours Drum at Claudy. In an evenly contested game they emerged winners by two points, having trailing for most of the game. At half-time the scoreboard read, Drum 0-8 Dungiven 0-6.
St Colm’s has enjoyed a five point advantage two minutes before the interval but somehow had a lapse in concentration, and allowed Dungiven get back into the game. They gratefully accepted and scored three quick points to go into the dressing room, a much-relieved team – a mear two points in arrears.
Shortly after the break, Drum extended their lead to four points and seemed well on course for victory. Chris Quigg then goaled for Dungiven and suddenly it was all to play for. In the final quarter, with a single point lead, Drum missed a penalty when keeper Rory O’Connor smothered a Rory Stevenson kick.
This seemed to inspire St Canice’s and they seized their opportunity with both hands. Quick points from Eddie Friel and Dominic O’Connor and they found themselves in front for the first time in the match. In the 30th minute, Chris Quigg boxed a Stephen Kelly ‘45’ over the bar to give Dungiven a two points winning margin.
