About the play
Hook, Line and Sinker is a 2 act comedy set in the present day. The action of the play takes place in a caravan with 5 ladies embarking on a “strictly women only” holiday, in Benone. Anne, is a strong-willed widow, with a decided distaste for all men, and is adamant to make the other 4 ladies follow her lead and write-off the opposite sex, for a live of peace and tranquillity. Her three “friends” follow somewhat bewildered with the quest. Lucy is a ditzy loveable character who must hide her never-ending faith in finding true love. Claire, another single, is only interested in the finer things in life, but, has she an agenda of her own, in taking this trip? Then we have Roisin, a relationship lightweight, who’s overall fear of men, makes her one of the most entertaining characters. Anne’s young daughter Siobhan, has been taken along on the trip to learn from their mistakes.
A subsequent case of “mistaken caravan identity” sees the ladies thrown into disarray with the arrival of no nonsense alpha-male Hugh, his dim-witted side-kick Patsy and Hugh’s handsome young son Tommy. Add to the mix a couple of surprise visitors in the form of Jim and Farmer John and what was supposed to be a scene of peace and restfulness turns into a riotous clash of the sexes.
The entire play spans over twelve hours
Please note this play is an adaptation of a play written by Sam Cree.
