St Canice’s GAC, Dungiven – Club Notes w/c Mon 5th Dec 2016
Club Dinner Dance
Our Championship-winning team of 1991 were well celebrated in front of a large crowd at our 2016 Dinner Dance in The Roe Park Hotel on Saturday evening. In the 25th Anniversary year since they completed a clean sweep of Derry Senior Football competitions, it was terrific to see so many of them there to receive special memento trophies on the night.
Special thanks to our compere Stephen “Banty” McGuigan who did a terrific job on the night. After a welcome speech by our Chairman Kieran McKeever, who outlined his aims for the future of our club, it was poignant and proper to take time to remember our recently departed member and manager of this 1991 team, Andy Murphy, through the words of his son, Ryan, and in stories told by former goalkeeper and backroom member John Summers, and through many other stories told by the many players of that year. It was clear that plenty of success was achieved with plenty of craic back in the day. Our 2016 Carlin Duffy winning Minor team were also celebrated on the night.
This year’s dinner dance must go down as a huge success, so well done to Sean Owens, James McMacken, Kieran McKeever and all of those who were involved in running this event. It was great to see a big crowd of club members and gaels gather for fine food, memories, music and craic together.
Underage End-of-Year Presentation:
Our annual Underage Presentation will take place at 6pm on Sunday 18th December in the Club Hall for the players, parents and families of all those involved with the U6, U8, U10, U12 and U14 teams. More details to follow next week.
This week’s winning Lotto numbers are 04 – 05 – 11 – 25.
There was no Jackpot winner and four 3-number £20 winners: Maura Higgins, Pat Higgins, Jolene Farren, Marian Dunne. Next week the Jackpot rises to £5,800.
As always, thanks to everyone who regularly supports us with the Club Lotto. This is our main fundraising effort and is essentially our lifeblood income to help us fund all of our teams running costs, and to also support many of our strategic development projects. Whilst the Lotto remains a strong contributor for us we know that it can and should do better – parts of our town are no longer served by regular collectors, and we’d like to change this. If you think you can help, either as a collector or a coordinator of our Lotto, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please give your name to any of the Executive Committee.
