Charlie Hasson
1926 – 2016
The committee, players and members of St Canice’s GAC, Dungiven regret the passing of Chalie Hasson (San Francisco and formerly Dungiven) on 28th August and extend to the Hasson family circle their deep sympathy.
Charlie was the first secretary of the re-formed St Canice’s Club in 1943 and a playing member of County Championship winning teams of 1947 and 1951. He is predeceased by brothers Robbie and Niall also playing members from that very successful era. Charlie played senior football with St Canice’s for thirteen years before moving to England in 1956 in search of work. In 1961 he emigrated on a permanent basis to America where he worked in the construction industry.
Charlie retained his deep interest in the fortunes of St Canice’s GAC and on his annual summer visits to his hometown was a frequent spectator at O’Cahan Park with lifelong friend Eddie Lowry.
His ashes will be taken to St Patrick’s Church Dungiven at 6.00 pm this evening (Wednesday). Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10.00 pm on Thursday with burial immediately afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
