The week that was:
Our Senior Team got a much-needed and deserved victory against league-chasing Magherafelt in Pairc Uí Catháin on Friday night. Magherafelt will rue their missed chances in the first half when they were well on top – despite Dungiven not playing well it meant they were still very much in the game at the break, trailing 0-06 to 0-03. Although Magherafelt started the second period brightly and tagged on a couple of quick points, from there Dungiven took good control of the remainder of the game, choosing to play a more aggressive and direct style of football, running at the Magherafelt defence at every opportunity. Goals win games, and this was certainly true in this match – hitting the net twice at key times ensured Dungiven retained their momentum and finished strongly – this was a key result for Dungiven in their push to stay in the top division – with teams around us also winning this weekend the victory took on even greater significance. Newbridge visit Dungiven this Wednesday night – a similar result would be just the ticket!
Dungiven Reserves played out a draw in a short match on Friday night as the nights have started to shorten. Plenty of goals, but a modest number of total scores. With games in hand of their rivals, Dungiven should be aiming for a top-four finish in the Reserve League.
The U14s fared well by beating Craigbane in a challenge match against on Tuesday night. After a week off from league duties they resume this week, with an away match against Ballinascreen on Tuesday night.
Our U12s played Loup on Sunday morning, winning on a score-line of 3-08 to 3-02. We had a great first half, leading 2-08 to 0-00 at the break. Although we tired in the second half the lads kept at it and scored a late goal to ensure victory. Some great football played throughout so well done to all involved.
Commiserations to our players involved in the Derry Minor defeat to Kerry in Croke Park on Sunday – we’re proud to have been well represented in the 2016 County Minor panel by Seamus and Fergal Higgins, Odhran McKeever, Conor Kelly, Niall Smyth and Pauric McNicholl.
Meeting:
There will be a Youth Committee Meeting on Monday 1st Aug at 9:00pm sharp. Very important that all underage managers attend (from U6 to Minor) – it will last 30mins max.

We’d encourage our underage teams to get involved in this great event and run in their groups (with their managers!) to show support for Dermot’s family, Dungiven Celtic, and Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke.
