We have been asked to distribute the following questionnaire to people in the local community on behalf of The Glenshane Care Day Centre, please take time to complete the questionnaire and show your support. Thanks.
The voluntary management committee have recently been offered an opportunity through a Lottery Programme called Village SOS to look at the current provision we provide and assess how part of it might evolve into an inclusive community facility for all. It is planned by our voluntary management committee that this would be called ‘Unit 4 All’ and provide an open and evolving platform for people with disability and the local community to work together to create a positive and inclusive future. The Glenshane Care Day Centre has been running since 1998, as a successful and well respected facility for people with disabilities living in Dungiven and its surrounding rural areas. It is due to the original founders’ vision, tenacity and passion to create a safe, purpose built place for local disabled people to meet that we currently work with over 20 people who have physical and learning disabilities and open on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday each week as a Registered Daycare Setting, providing a lifeline service for families and carers.
To gauge the level of support from the local community for this additional venture we have developed a Community Questionnaire. Families who use our services are very aware of what we currently do but we would like to know what level of support there would be for further community engagement. We already have the support of the Western Health and Social Care Trust to move forward towards the more socially inclusive model of a community hub. However, to enable us to access further funding, and to make up an ongoing shortfall, we need to know that we have the support of the wider community.
‘Unit 4 All’ would encourage people to drop in, relax, have a cup of tea/coffee, refreshments and engage in workshops, training and activities alongside local disabled people to enable all who visit the hub to have a positive, inclusive experience in a friendly, warm environment that enables local disabled people to engage with their wider community as equal citizens.
We would be grateful if you could take the time to complete this questionnaire to help ensure the sustainability of the current Day Care Centre alongside a future hub.
Thank you in advance.
