The week that was:
Our seniors fell to a heavy defeat in Coleraine on Sunday afternoon. A poor start saw Coleraine take a 7 point lead before we registered on the scoreboard. A half-time score of 1-11 to 0-02 meant we were in damage limitation mode in the second half. The second half was a more even affair but by then the damage was done.
Our Reserves were also well beaten – despite converting the same number of scoring chances, the old adage about goals winning games was evident in this result.
After a good recent run our U14s had a tough assignment on Tuesday night as they hosted a strong and organised Lavey team. Although going in at half time well behind Dungiven didn’t give up, and played some good football in the second period. Fair play to them for not dropping their heads, choosing instead to keep working hard. They have a chance to reverse their fortunes this week as they welcome a struggling Slaughtneil team to O’Cathain Park.
Our U12s have two games this week (Monday and Friday) so won’t train.
Dungiven’s U10s competed in a GoGames Blitz on Sunday morning in Slaughtneil – there were 3 three very competitive matches in each grade, versus Slaughtneil, Loup and Glen, and all of the lads performed really well. Thank you to all the parents for their continued support.
Forty-nine of our U8s made the short trip to Owenbeg on a glorious Friday night to join about 500 other kids in a central GoGames Blitz. This was a brilliant turnout and all lads gave their best in a great evening of football. Please note that our U8s are now training on a Thursday night in the Gaelscoil. Our U8 players are being treated to a trip to Redcastle Leisureland this Sunday 12th June – cost only £5 per child (includes entry to Leisureland) – the club is kindly supporting us by making up the balance to pay for bus and food. All parents will have to complete a consent form which will be given out at training this week. We also need 10 parents to volunteer to travel with the lads on the day – if we do not have enough adult supervision the trip will not go ahead. Please give your name to any of the coaches.
We had a great turnout for the Summer Camp 2016 registration evenings, and now have more than 130 children registered. It should be one of the highlights of the year. Children can continue to register right up until the first morning of the Camp, but only those already registered will receive the unique Club top at the Camp – late-registration jerseys will be ordered at the end of the camp.
