The week that was:
The U16s had one of those nightmare matches in Bellaghy on Thursday evening – it was always going to be a tough assignment given the strong start Bellaghy have made to the league. Playing with the wind in the first half Dungiven certainly had chances in scoring positions in the first 15 mins, but failing to take these meant they went in 2-03 to 0-02 down at half time. The second half, against the wind, was clearly going to be difficult, but it was an as one-sided affair as you’re likely to see. Whilst credit should be given to our opponents for the focus, work-rate and commitment they showed right to the final whistle, it was disappointing to see our lads drop their heads and lose their shape to the extent that they did. Hopefully they can redeem themselves this week at home to Ballinascreen.
With no game the previous week our U14 team had two games to play this week. First up was a home game against Ballinderry on Tuesday night. The visitors brought a strong physical element to this game which on another night might have been punished with more frees. Despite this Dungiven probably had enough chances to win the match and so it was disappointing to come out on the wrong side of a 2-point defeat. On Thursday night we travelled to play Slaughtneil – 4 points down at half time we had it all to do in the second period. A great team effort, with no shortage of skill and determination, led to a fully deserved one point win.
Our U12s (pictured below) travelled with two teams to play Ballinascreen on Monday night and both came away with wins. The A Team were involved in a very competitive outing with fine displays from both teams. In a close game it was a strong finish that helped Dungiven come out as 3-09 to 2-05 winners. The B Team played superb football to run out convincing winners, with those stepping up from U10 helping in no small measure. Well done to both teams.
