Youth Notes
U6’s – training Wednesday 6:30pm-7:30pm on St Canice’s Primary School pitch.
U8’s – training at St Patrick’s School (Pitch 2) on Wednesday from 7:00pm-8:00pm. Dungiven hosted what was supposed to be a mini-blitz on Sunday morning on the school pitches – cancellations from other teams meant that Limavady were the only visitors – despite the weather not being the kindest all teams competed well and hopefully went home happy.
U10’s – training Wednesday night slot from 7:00pm-8:00pm on St Patrick’s School (Pitch 1). There’ll be another U10 Go-Games Blitz this Saturday – details will be given to players as soon as they are known.
U12’s – training on Thursday from 7:00pm-8:00pm in Páirc na nÓg. Our U12’s travelled to a Go-Games Blitz in Coleraine last Saturday morning and performed really well against the hosts, Glenullin, Craigbane & Claudy. Despite the terrible conditions there was excellent football on display from all teams. The A Team has the better of all their opponents, and whilst our B’s never stopped trying they struggled to get to grips with the strong competition provided by the other teams and with the awful weather.
U14’s – Mixed fortunes this week for our teams – our A’s had another great result away to Kilrea, winning 5-09 to 2-05. This result leaves Dungiven in a very commendable 2nd position in the table, behind the strong, and as yet undefeated Féile-winning Bellaghy team. Our last two games will define our final league position though as next up is a home tie against the aforementioned Bellaghy, and we finish the league campaign with an away trip to Ballinascreen, who are currently 3rd. Well done so far and still all to play for lads. Our B team had a very difficult night at home to our very accomplished neighbours Drumsurn – this was always expected to be a tough encounter and so it proved. Whilst damage-limitation was always the name of the game with this fixture it was disappointing to see our lads drop their heads so early in the game – there’s an immediate chance for redemption this Tuesday night when we travel to play Castledawson who sit one place above Dungiven in the table. U14 Fixtures this Tuesday – A’s at home to Bellaghy – players meet at club 6:30pm. B’s away to Castledawson – players meet at club 6:15pm for onward travel to Castledawson. Both games throw-in at 7:15pm. Full-squad U14 training as normal on Thursday night 6:30pm – 7:30pm in Páirc na nÓg.
U16’s – training on Tuesday night 7-8pm in Páirc na nÓg. The exam-break has finally ended and this week and Slaughtneil will be the visitors to Pairc Ui Cathain – game throws in at 7:15pm.
Minor’s – will play Ballinderry at home on Monday night – 7:30pm throw-in.
Féile Peile na nÓg is now just around the corner – Dungiven will be hosting clubs from Cork and Scotland and we’ll want to ensure we give them the warmest possible welcome so we’ll need as much help as possible over the Féile weekend. Host families will be contacted soon with more details on the Agenda/Itinerary for the Féile weekend.
Final numbers for this year’s St Canice’s Club Summer Camp ( 15th-19th July) are very healthy – can anyone who has registered their children but has yet to pay the deposit please do so asap to help ensure there will be no disappointment when the final-day camp gifts are being distributed. To mark Derry GAA’s 125 year anniversary there’ll be a Cúl Camp this year, running from 19th -23rd August – full details available on www.derrygaa.ie. Registration Packs for the Cúl Camp will be distributed to the schools soon.
Reminder for all underage players and parents: the wearing of gum shields is now mandatory for all underage training sessions and matches – club shop stocks gum shields for all sizes – open 11am-1pm every Saturday. Can we remind as many parents as possible to register their email address on the club Website (www.dungivengac.com) – this way you’ll be automatically advised of all important notices about training, blitz’s and matches.
