The week that was:
Our Senior Team put the final nail in Newbridge’s Division 1 relegation battle in O’Cathain Park on Wednesday night. After a really bright start Dungiven went 4 points to 1 up, but then lost their way, handing the initiative to the visitors who knew only a victory would give them a chance of a relegation-reprieve. A late burst of scores saw us go in all-square at half time with 7 points each. The low scoring game remained pretty-much nip and tuck until a missed penalty by Newbridge proved costly – with 10 mins to go the teams were still level on 10 points each, but a strong finish by Dungiven allowed us to collect both points, in the process helping ensure both Claudy and Banagher retain their Division 1 status next season.
Our last league match was played on Sunday in Lavey, where we lost by a goal.
In a challenging league campaign our final position was a very disappointing 13th. Well done to Magherafelt who, despite losing to Dungiven in the final week, went on to clinch overall victory with a big win in Kilrea on Sunday. Our focus now is firmly on Championship – Dungiven are scheduled to play Glen in Owenbeg on Saturday 20th August – 6:30pm throw-in. Good luck to all players and management in their preparations for this game.
Our Minor league match in Bellaghy on Monday night had to be abandoned shortly after throw-in following a very bad injury to a Bellaghy player. Everyone at St Canice’s would like to express our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the young Bellaghy player.
Our U16s get our Championship season up-and-running this week with a match against our old foes Lavey. Training has been going well and competition for places is intense – venue will be announced as soon as we know, and we’d encourage good support for the team.
The U14s travelled to Ballinascreen with only 13 players on Tuesday night, such was the impact of family holidays on our team. In fulfilling the fixture we left ourselves open to the heavy defeat, but well done to those players who battled on throughout.
Our U12s have a terrific experience to look forward to when they travel to play in Croke Park on Tuesday 16th August – full itinerary and travel details will be provided at training on Monday night.
Our U10s competed in a GoGames Blitz on Sunday morning in Glenullin, where there were some good performances from our lads despite being understrength. Thanks to everyone who travelled over Benbradagh to support the teams.
There will be a “Lucky Dip Draw” Meeting on Monday 8th Aug at 8:00pm sharp. Please bring all tickets sold so far.
Lucky Dip Draw:
We would ask everyone to support us in our Lucky Dip draw in aid of Páirc na nÓg Car Park & Changing Facility – choose your tickets carefully though, as the price of your ticket is based on the serial number in those sealed envelopes – there are 2,000 tickets, all with a unique price, priced from £0.01 to £20.00. Whatever the price of your ticket, you stand a chance of winning the £3,000 top prize on 18th September, with 5 other prizes from £1,000 to £100. We’d especially ask the parents of our Underage teams to support us. Thank you and best of luck
This week’s Lotto numbers, drawn on Sunday 7th August were: 15 – 18 – 24 – 25.
No Jackpot winner, and one 3-number £20 winner: Mary Decanniere – well done Mary.
Thank you to everyone who supports us with this life-blood fundraiser for our Club – thanks also to all of our loyal and committed collectors and helpers.

Remembering Dermot – 10k
Dungiven Celtic FC are organising a 5k walk, a 5k run, and a certified 10k race in memory of Dermot Roe McCloskey, on Sunday 14th August at 1pm. We’d encourage our underage teams to get involved in this great event and run in their groups (with their managers!) to show support for Dermot’s family, Dungiven Celtic, and Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke. For further information contact Seamus Harkin via firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07590419828.
