The week that was:
Our U14 Féile campaign got off to a bad start in Maghera on Sunday morning – we were well beaten in the first game against a strong Glen team. On the back of this heavy defeat we had to face an immediate restart against Ballinderry – although we were again well beaten we did compete much better and gave ourselves enough goal chances to have actually won the game.
U16’s are continuing to train well, but a tough challenge match against St Brigids in Belfast on Sunday shows that there’s still work to be done. Thanks to St Brigids for the invitation and for the after-match refreshments – much appreciated.
Congratulations to St Patrick’s College Maghera on making the MacRory final after defeating Dungannon on Friday night, especially to our own players Odhran McKeever, Niall McNicholl, Feargal Higgins and Richie Mullan who are all on the panel.
We’d advised in last week’s notes that our Club’s Underage Presentation for the 2015 teams would take place next Sunday – now that we’ve realised this is Mother’s Day our presentation will now be rearranged – we’d ask all of our players to remember to spoil their Mums for the day.
Thanks to everyone who helped make our Club Mass a successful evening – it was great to see so many in attendance – thank you to Father Kelly for making the time to celebrate the Mass for us.
Another busy night in the Club on Saturday night where we had all screens (including the big screen in the main hall) showing the Frampton v Quigg fight – although the fight maybe didn’t live up to expectations the atmosphere among the large crowd in our Club was great.
Club membership is now due. To try and encourage a larger membership body, especially to include more parents of our Underage members, the Committee agreed to reduce the membership rates this year. Membership for 2016 is a very reasonable £20 per adult, £30 for an adult couple, £10 for students and OAPs, and £5 for underage (max £10 per Underage family). All players must be members, but we’d encourage anyone else who isn’t a member yet to consider joining. Working together, a larger and more active membership will build a better Club for us all. To make it even more convenient, membership can now be purchased online at http://www.dungivengac.com/membership-online/ – just click the “sign up now” link.
No jackpot winner – No £20 winners.
Thanks to those of you who support our Lotto every week, and thanks to all our collectors and helpers. This is a key fundraising initiative for our Club and we need you to keep playing to avoid us having to sell tickets and run draws.
Last Man Standing:
17 players were still alive going into the weekend – this has reduced to 13 as a result of Cork’s defeat. A difficult looking set of fixtures lies ahead next weekend so choose your teams carefully.
