Our U12’s had two teams entered in the indoor league which began for them last Friday night in Magherafelt. The A-Team started with a tough and well-matched encounter with old foes Lavey – a tight game throughout we did well to come through as victors. Our second game was a different story where we never got going and were beaten by a strong Castledawson team. A slow start in the final game against a big and physical Bellaghy team saw us fall 8 points behind before we dug-in, tackled well, and showed great heart and spirit to claw our way back into the game, eventually running out as 1-point winners. Our B-Team had a tough evening, understandable given that two of the matches were played against the A-teams of Ballinderry and Desertmartin, along with Bellaghy B’s. Our team, which included a few U10’s, competed very well and showed good skill throughout so well done to them. It’s a great initiative to get this sort of competitive run out for our teams at this stage of the season. We look forward to our next round of games in a couple of weeks.
Early notification that our Underage Presentation for 2015 will take place on Sunday 6th March, time TBC.
Membership:
Club membership is now due. To try and encourage a larger membership body, especially to include more parents of our Underage members, the Committee agreed to reduce the membership rates this year. Membership for 2016 is a very reasonable £20 per adult, £30 for an adult couple, £10 for students and OAPs, and £5 for underage (max £10 per Underage family). All players must be members, but we’d encourage anyone else who isn’t a member yet to consider joining. Working together, a larger and more active membership will build a better Club for us all. To make it even more convenient, membership can now be easily purchased on our Club website at http://www.dungivengac.com/membership-online/ – just click the “sign up now” link.

1916 Remembered:
On behalf of our own Club and Kevin Lynch’s Hurling Club, St Canice’s GAC would like to say a big thank you to Proinnsias Brolly for delivering a comprehensive and insightful talk on the Easter Rising of 1916 in the Main Hall last Friday evening. The good-sized crowd who were there were witness to a brilliantly-delivered presentation by someone with such a clear passion for Irish history. Proinnsias allowed his audience to really appreciate the mood of the time as he took us on a journey through all of the significant political, social and cultural shifts that preceded and influenced this most momentous of historical events.
Entertainment:
Remember that we regularly show lots of sports on the big screens in the bar – from Monday night football, mid-week league, cup and European matches, and weekend GAA and soccer matches through Saturday and Sunday.
