St Canice’s Gac 80th Anniversary Gala Dinner Saturday 28th November 2015 in The TullyGlass Hotel Ballymena
St Canice’s GAC has a proud and long tradition of promoting Gaelic games and culture in Dungiven. Although the club as we know it now was officially founded in 1943, St Canice’s can trace its origins to the Dungiven team formed almost 80 years ago in 1936. In November this year we are planning to celebrate this 80-year milestone by holding a Gala Dinner, and we ’ d love for you to join us.
This Club works hard to position itself at the centre of your community – whilst extremely proud to promote our games and our teams, we are more than just a football club. We create programmes that facilitate various cultural and social events, from Irish language classes to drama groups, from Irish Dancing to fitness classes, from weight loss clubs to traditional céile sessions. As a sporting body, and through the efforts of a very active set of volunteers and coaches, we provide football, fitness, discipline, guidance and fun to hundreds of our youngest members each year. Through our senior teams we provide the opportunity for talented and dedicated sportsmen to represent themselves and their community.
In celebrating this anniversary it’s also an opportunity for us to generate much-needed fundraising. Our last Gala Dinner in 2008 helped us to plan and sustain the activities of St Canice’s for the following 7 years, contributing towards the normal annual running costs, as well as to a series of important capital expenditure programmes. We need to continue with such investment to ensure we progress and build our Club for the future generations of this town and community.
And so we ask you to support us by joining us on Saturday 28 th November in the Tullyglass Hotel in Ballymena . It promises to be a special and wholly enjoyable night in the life of our Club , a night where we’ll join together as a community and group of friends for good food, music and craic. We’ve made a strong start to ensuring it’s a successful night and many 10-seat tables have already been sold – if you’re not already committed to one of these we ask you to consider forming a table with your family and friends, or ask you to buy tickets and join us at our Club tables.
As in 2008, tickets are priced at £100 each, to cover a welcome reception, dinner, wine and entertainment. We have a payment plan running, allowing you to pay £10 per month. More details, including travel arrangements for those not wanting to drive or stay over, will be released over the following weeks.
We hope that you’ll decide to join us and support us in our efforts of continual improvement at St Canice ’ s GAC.
Tickets are available from James Mc Macken on 07889670455 & Eugene Farren on 07840 381789
Club members will be calling at homes in all areas of the town this week. If you wish to start the saving scheme for the Gala, you will have a collector from your site call once a month to lift money.

Friday Night Fitness Classes
With Paul Gillespie at St Canice’s Gac Dungiven – Kettlercise starts at 6.15pm in the Main Hall followed by 30-minute spin interval in the Spin Suite at 7pm. Kettlercise uses only a light 4/6kg Kettlebell and after picking the bell up to start the first exercise, you do not put it down again until you complete 37 x 1 minute exercises. The first 30 exercises alternate between upper and lower body and the last 7 focus on abs. Kettlercise therefore w orks all muscle groups, raises metabolic rate, increases lean muscle and burns fat! With a warm up and cool down the whole class lasts normally 45 minutes. A high intensity 30-minute spin interval takes place immediately after the Kettlercise but we are limited to 15 for this class due the number of bikes. You can book for the Kettlercise class only, Spin class only or both classes.
