Youth Notes for this week.
U6 training is now finished up for this season. Thanks to Paul and his team of coaches – hopefully the youngest group of players in our club have enjoyed their year, have had loads of fun, and have picked up some of the initial skills that will allow them to go on and build a long football-playing career for St Canices.
U8’s – because of the soccer camp running every evening this week we have decided to run U8 training on Wednesday morning at 10:30am on the club’s main pitch – we know this change might not suit everyone but we hope most of the players will be able to make it. U8’s are playing in a tournament in Magherafelt on Saturday – see below.
U10’s – training as normal on Wednesday night from 7:00pm-8:00pm on St Patrick’s School.
Our U8 & U10 teams will be playing in Magherafelt’s annual Brigid Heavron tournament this Saturday 31st August – as this will be the final competitive outing for these teams we’d like all players to be available for this tournament. We’d also encourage parents and supporters to make the trip over the Glenshane for this well organised event to support all our young participants.
U12’s – No training this week. Our U12’s travelled to Coleraine on Saturday for the final round of U12 mini-league games. Well done to the players who made the trip and played so well.
U13’s – This year’s U13 competition will be up-and-running in September. Can all qualifying players from this year’s U12 & U14 squads (i.e. those who will be playing U14 football next year – born in 2000 & 2001) come to the main club pitch on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30pm for the first training session?
U16’s – Our U16’s got off to a great start in their Championship with a quarter-final win against Bellaghy in Swatragh last Thursday night. After a fairly even first half Dungiven seized the upper hand with an opportunist goal from Richie Mullan at the start of the second half. This proved to be the catylst for a very strong 20-minute period of the game where Dungiven built an unassailable lead. Despite a late push from Bellaghy our lads were able to close the game out to finish with a convincing 1-12 to 0-07 win. Next up this Thursday evening is a tough semi-final fixture against the League winners, Faughanvale. Details on venue will be advised via normal channels as soon as they are known.
Reminder for all underage players and parents: the wearing of gum shields is mandatory for allunderage training sessions and matches – club shop stocks gum shields for all sizes – open 11am-1pm every Saturday. Can we remind as many parents as possible to register their email address on the club Website (www.dungivengac.com) – this way you’ll be automatically advised of all important notices about training, blitz’s and matches.
Club Gear
The Club Shop, which stocks an extensive range of Club merchandise, is now open every Saturday from 11am-1pm.
