Youth Notes
The Club Summer Camp starts on Monday morning on the Club’s main pitch. It runs from 11am – 2pm (11am – 12:30pm for last year’s P1s & P2’s). Those children staying until 2pm and should bring a packed lunch. All Children should stay until 2pm on the final day (Friday). Please make sure children dress according to the weather and bring a drink and ensure they are protected from the sun by using sun cream and hats. Children should be on the pitch at 10:45am each morning to make sure the activities can begin at 11am sharp. Parents who have to complete registration payments should do so on Monday morning (please come at 10:30am to allow this to be completed before your child can begin camp). Because the summer camp is running all week there will be NO mid-week training this Wednesday night for U6, U8, U10 or U12 Footballers. As there are going to be about 160 on our Camp, help from Mums & Dads during the week would be great and much appreciated. Important – all children taking part in the Summer Camp must wear gum shields.
U12’s –have a Go-Games Blitz on Saturday 20th July – arrangements will be confirmed during the week.
The Finvola Festival is running all week and will include lots of activity for our underage players. On Wednesday night we’d like ALL our underage players (U6, U8, U10, U12 & U14), and their families, to take part in the “Mena Charity Walk” around the Hass Road. We want to walk as a Club – any child wearing a St Canice’s Football Top can take part in the walk for a £1 donation. Come to the Club at 7:00pm sharp to allow us to get you all organised into groups (need a least one parent to accompany your child). All donations for Marie Curie & Foyle Hospice. On Sunday we want our U6, U8, U10 & U12 footballers to take part in the Pageant Parade in their best “Country & Western” fancy dress. The “cowboys” should be at the Club for 1:30pm sharp. The Pageant Parade will be followed by children’s entertainment in the marquee and a series of skills tests on the main pitch for U12, U14 & U16 footballers.
U14’s – No games during the past week. The U14B Fixture this Tuesday is a tough away game in Ballerin. Players should be at club for 6:15pm for onward travel. U14 A’s continue their preparation for the imminent championship opener with training on Tuesday night – 6:30pm on the main pitch. Full-squad U14 training as normal on Thursday night 6:30pm – 7:30pm in Páirc na nÓg.
U15’s – St Canice’s have entered 2 teams in an U15 competition (Club Derry Óg Sport) in Owenbeg this Wednesday night – players should be in Owenbeg for 6:30pm sharp as matches begin at 7pm.
U16’s – no game last week – training this Tuesday night 7-8pm in Páirc na nÓg. U16’s are away to Ballinascreen in the League this Thursday night – 7:15pm throw-in.
Congratulations to our U16 Player Frank Dillon on being selected to play for Ulster at U16 Level – this is a tremendous achievement for Frank and for St Canice’s GAC – well done to him and best of luck in your provincial games.
Minor’s – no game last week – away to Slaughtneil tomorrow (Monday) night – 7:30pm throw-in.
Cúl Camp: As a commitment to Derry GAA’s 125 year anniversary St Canice’s have decided to support Derry County Board as they run a Cúl Camp on our main pitch from 19th-23rd August (6-13 year old boys and girls). The costs of attending are as follows: First Child – £ 37. Second and subsequent children – £ 32. There was a poor response to the Cúl Camp information / registration session in the Club Hall last week. Can anyone who wants to register their children please contact Francis or Tony asap.
Reminder for all underage players and parents: the wearing of gum shields is now mandatory for all underage training sessions and matches (and essential for the Summer Camp) – club shop stocks gum shields for all sizes – open 11am-1pm every Saturday. Can we remind as many parents as possible to register their email address on the club Website (www.dungivengac.com) – this way you’ll be automatically advised of all important notices about training, blitz’s and matches.
