Youth Notes
The Club Summer Camp, which ran all of last week on our main pitch, was a resounding success. A glorious week of weather saw 160 of our younger footballers enjoy a week of fun, and hopefully also allowed their football skills to develop at the same time. One of the noticeable aspects of this year’s camp was the high number of people who got involved to help – massive thanks has to go to all of those people: to St Canice’s Committee for their very strong and continued support for the Summer Camp; to Derry County Board for their help in supplying coaches; to our own coaches who helped out, many taking time off work to do so; to those who helped with the club shop each day; to those of our senior footballers who took the time to offer their help; and especially to our U14, U16 & minor footballers who attended in large numbers throughout the week to assist in the running of the camp. All of this effort helped ensure the camp ran smoothly and guaranteed that it was such fun for the kids taking part. There are a small number of the Summer Camp packs that have not been collected – anyone still to collect should contact Tony on 077 3991 6443.
U6’s – training Wednesday 6:30pm-7:30pm on St Canice’s Primary School pitch.
U12’s –Normal training on Wednesday from 6:30pm-7:30pm on Main Club Pitch.
U15’s – St Canice’s are the Club Derry Óg Sport Champions for 2013. After a thrilling night’s football in Owenbeg last Wednesday both our A & B teams performed terrifically well in this fast and exciting football competition. The only Club with two teams entered, our B Team only failed to make the semi-finals on score-difference in their very competitive group. Our A team went through from their group to beat Bellaghy in the semi-final, and won out by the slimmest margin in a very tough final against Kilrea. Well done to all the players and coaches on this achievement.
Minor’s – won away to Slaughtneil in the league last week scoring 3-09 to the hosts 0-15. No game this week.
Cúl Camp: As a commitment to Derry GAA’s 125 year anniversary St Canice’s have decided to support Derry County Board as they run a Cúl Camp on our main pitch from 19th-23rd August (6-13 year old boys and girls). The costs of attending is as follows: First Child – £ 37. Second and subsequent children – £ 32. Registration for this Camp is possible right up until the first morning of Camp but to assist planning we’d appreciate knowing earlier how many are planning to attend. Can anyone who wants to register their children please contact Francis or Tony asap?
The week-long Finvola Festival finished on Sunday night to the energetic up-beat tones of Ritchie Remo and his band. This was a very busy week for all of the active members of St Canice’s Club – huge effort by too many people to name has gone into planning and running this ambitious event. Whilst numbers attending the flagship events was lower than hoped or expected I think everyone who did attend will testify to the quality of the events and the professional manner in which they were organised. Well done and thank you to all those involved in making this festival a success.
