Youth Notes
U6’s – training Wednesday 6:30pm-7:30pm on St Canice’s Primary School pitch.
U8’s – training at St Patrick’s School (Pitch 2) on Wednesday from 7:00pm-8:00pm.
U10’s – training Wednesday night slot from 7:00pm-8:00pm on St Patrick’s School (Pitch 1). Our U10’s travelled to Limavady on Saturday for an U10 Go-Games Blitz and in difficult conditions both teams performed really well against teams from Limavady, Glenullin & Lavey. Well done again lads – you’re terrific representatives for our great club.
U12’s – training on Wednesday from 6:30pm-7:30pm on Main Club Pitch.
U14’s – Disappointing results for both our teams in the league this week – The A team were at home to Bellaghy. In the first half we continued on from the good performance of the previous week. The lads matched a very strong Bellaghy side in the first 15 minutes score for score. Both teams also missed a few chances during this period. A second Bellaghy goal just before half time left Dungiven behind by two points at the break. The exertions of the first half seemed to take their toll as in the second half Bellaghy pulled away with ease to win by ten points. This team has improved considerably since the start of the year, but Tuesday night’s game highlighted the need for the players to keep working at improving their physical strength. Our B team had another difficult night away to Castledawson. After a poor start we were well behind by half time and the game as a contest was effectively over. However, playing for pride in the second half our lads were much improved so credit to them for that. U14 Fixtures this Tuesday – A’s have their final league game away to Ballinascreen – players meet at club 6:15pm for onward travel. B’s are at home to an as-yet undefeated Lissan team in what is sure to be another very difficult fixture. Both games throw-in at 7:15pm. Full-squad U14 training as normal on Thursday night 6:30pm – 7:30pm in Páirc na nÓg where the big focus will be on this weekend’s Féile.
U16’s – training on Tuesday night 7-8pm in Páirc na nÓg. The exam-break ended with a home defeat against a physical and direct Slaughtneil team on Thursday night, losing 2-14 to 2-10. Our lads were always playing catch-up but finished the stronger team and will rue late missed opportunities that could have salvaged something from the game.
Minor’s – beat Ballinderry at home easily on Monday night by 7-16 to 3-06 – away to Glen this Monday night with a 7:30pm throw-in.
Féile Peile na nÓg is now upon us – there will be an important meeting on Tuesday night at 9:00pm in the Club Main Hall where the weekend’s itinerary will be discussed in detail. All player’s parents and host families should attend this meeting. A copy of the Itinerary is also available on the Club Website. This weekend gives us an opportunity to show all visiting teams and supporters what a great club St Canice’s GAC is, and demonstrate how we’re an integral part of the Dungiven community. We’d appeal to all members to offer the Club their full support this weekend – there will be games on the home pitch on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday – please come along and help out or simply show your support for all the competing teams.
Final numbers for this year’s St Canice’s Club Summer Camp ( 15th-19th July) are very healthy – can anyone who has registered their children but has yet to pay the deposit please do so asap to help ensure there will be no disappointment when the final-day camp gifts are being distributed. To mark Derry GAA’s 125 year anniversary there’ll be a Cúl Camp this year, running from 19th -23rd August – full details available on www.derrygaa.ie. You can apply online and we’ll distribute Registration Packs for the Cúl Camp to the schools this week.
Reminder for all underage players and parents: the wearing of gum shields is now mandatory for all underage training sessions and matches – club shop stocks gum shields for all sizes – open 11am-1pm every Saturday. Can we remind as many parents as possible to register their email address on the club Website (www.dungivengac.com) – this way you’ll be automatically advised of all important notices about training, blitz’s and matches.
