Youth Notes
U6’s – training Wednesday 6:30pm-7:30pm on St Canice’s Primary School pitch.
U8’s – training at St Patrick’s School (Pitch 2) on Wednesday from7:00pm-8:0pm.
U10’s – will continue to train Wednesday nights from 7:00pm-8:00pm on St Patrick’s School (Pitch 1). Our U10’s were in action with 2 teams at the Go Games Blitz in Owenbeg last Friday night – all the lads played outstanding football, worked hard for each other and continue to show great improvement. It was great to see so many parents there watching and lending their support.
U12’s – training on Thursday from 7:00pm-8:00pm in Páirc na nÓg. Our U12’s have a big outing this Saturday 1st June as they travel to Galbally (Tyrone) to compete in the annual Martin McCaughey tournament – enjoy your day lads and the best of luck competing against teams from other counties – I’m sure you’ll do Dungiven and Derry proud.
U14’s – mixed fortunes for our A & B Teams in the league this week – our A’s recorded a terrific victory in Páirc na nÓG last Tuesday night, beating Coleraine by 5-06 to 2-09. For the second week running our lads managed to overturn a recent heavy defeat by the same team in the Féile – this shows how well our team and our confidence has been developing. Make no mistake – this result was well deserved. Despite Coleraine having periods of the game where they were dominant, overall our lads enjoyed more possession and had the higher quality game. It was hard to call a winner until very late in this game when we scored two great goals to finally break Coleraine hearts. A terrific result against a quality team lads so very well done. Our B-Team lost by the narrowest margin away to Foreglen on Thursday night, losing 3-04 to 2-06. It was hard to find much fault with our performance – the concession of a couple of second-half goals that may have been prevented was a bit disappointing given how hard our players had worked up to that point, but to their massive credit they dug into their physical and mental reserves and had a terrific attempt at rescuing something from the game, falling just short with a narrow wide with virtually the last kick of the game. The management team went home disappointed with the result but happy with the performance, effort & spirit that this group of players continue to display. U14 Fixtures this Tuesday – A’s away to Magherafelt – bus leaves club at 6:15pm. B’s home to Ballymaguigan so meet at Club 6:30pm. Both games throw-in at 7:15pm. Any player who will be taking part in the Féile in June and who has not yet provided the managers with a copy of their birth certificate and two passport-size photographs must do so without further delay to ensure they can be registered in time. Full-squad U14 training as normal on Thursday night 6:30pm – 7:30pm in Páirc na nÓg.
U16’s – training on Tuesday night 6:30pm-7:30pm in Páirc na nÓg.
Our Minor’s away league game to Ballinascreen this week is one of many that has been postponed – training continues as normal.
Féile Peile na nÓg is now just around the corner – Dungiven will be hosting clubs from Cork and Scotland and we’ll want to ensure we give them the warmest possible welcome so we’ll need as much help as possible over the Féile weekend.
There’s a Bucket-Lift to support Youth Football in Dungiven on the Main Street in the town on Saturday 8th June – we’d appreciate as much help and support as possible on the day and would particularly welcome help from the Mums of our young teams – if you think you can stop traffic and can volunteer even an hour of your day to help in our efforts please let Tony Connolly or Bronagh McGonigle know so we can pencil your name into the rota.
Reminder for all underage players and parents: the wearing of gum shields is now mandatory for all underage training sessions and matches – club shop stocks gum shields for all sizes – open 11am-1pm every Saturday. Can we remind as many parents as possible to register their email address on the club Website (www.dungivengac.com) – this way you’ll be automatically advised of all important notices about training, blitz’s and matches.
