A series of indoor sessions for our U8’s begins on Wed 10th October in Dungiven Sports Pavilion from 6-7pm. These will run for four weeks only – as an external coach is supporting us in this initiative we’d ask all parents to ensure as many players as possible attend each week.
Our U10’s travelled to Magherafelt on Saturday for the Brigid Heavron Memorial Tournament. The A team won 3 out of their 4 group games, beating Glen, Rossa and Bellaghy. The B team won 2 out of their 3 games beating Ballinascreen and Carrickmore. The strong group performances saw both our teams progress to the knock-out cup tournament. The B team put up a gallant effort in their semi-final against the hosts Rossa. With the home crowd in fine voice they played their part in pushing the Rossa team over the line, as they beat us by a single point. The A team clashed with Lavey in the semi-final and, after a tough battle with our old rivals, we succeeded on a scoreline 1-5 to 1-3. This set up a final pairing with the hosts, Rossa. After the playing of the National Anthem both teams got off to a nervous start but settled well and produced some great football for the large vocal crowd in attendance. Both sets of players did their management teams very proud – in a game of two evenly matched teams Dungiven were the ones to claim victory, crossing the line with a 1 point margin. Well done to all the players from St Canice’s on their performance, with the A team thoroughly deserving their victory and coming home champions. Thank you to Magherafelt for inviting us and huge credit to their club for remembering such a dedicated club member and friend in Brigid Heavron.
Monday night’s U13A game was postponed due to the horrible weather. The U13B team suffered another heavy defeat to Steelstown on Wednesday night – our lads need to remember that we’re the only club in the county who have entered two teams and so our B matches are against the best players from the competitor clubs.
The U14A League decider against Kilrea, which was scheduled to be played on Saturday, was postponed due to a bereavement in Kilrea. New arrangements for this game will be communicated via the club website.
